Acoustic Country/Folk band Pig Earth have had a wonderful year playing the biggest festival stages that the British Country scene has to offer. These include Wolvestock, Americana International, Broken Spoke, Norfolk Country Music Festival and the Southern Country Magazine annual celebration. They have received glowing reviews for their live performances and were rewarded at the British Country Music Awards where they won best Horizon Act 2011. In 2012 they return to many of the Country music festival stages as well as the mainstream Acoustic Festival of Britain.
CMR Nashville and many local stations up and down the country regularly give them airplay and they have performed live sessions on BBC Radio Cambridge and BBC Radio Somerset. Also dedicated Country music magazines Country Routes, Cross Country and Southern Country have all given them front cover features in recent months. The original songs they perform are written by band founders guitarist Neil Keveren and pianist and melodeon player Emma Steele. Both share the role of lead vocals and are joined by classically trained multi-instrumentalist Craig Stratton on violin, mandolin and banjo. Mat Heighway plays double bass and is rather partial to bowing, also due to his classical background. Drums, percussion and anything that sounds good when hit are played by Dave Rowlands. Pig Earth are delighted for the opportunity to be taking to the Wembley stage and be part of the return of this wonderful International Festival of Country Music. As a boy Neil was taken many times to see the multitude of stars both from America and Britain. This influence has filtered through his songwriting and with the interesting mix of musicians it is hoped that their original approach to Country/Folk will continue to be enjoyed by many Country fans. With the recent release of their debut album 2012 looks like it is going to be another exciting year for Pig Earth.
